BEST FRIENDS ANIMAL SANCTUARY
Dogs are trend setters...we lived "In The Now" before it was New Age fashionable to do so. This is why we tend to feel that every single moment of our lives is THE WAY IT WILL ALWAYS BE.

Even though I have a higher IQ than most dogs I, too, live from the heart-space of Now. So, when my person Val leaves me alone--if even it is just to go check the mail--I am extraordinarily happy when he walks back in the door. And when he is cross with me it devastates me beyond all reason.

If Val were to hurt me, or abandon me, or leave me without a forever home I cannot express the anguish I would feel.

I know from my many friendships that animals of all species have hearts that also break.

This is why my spirit was filled with joy when Val introduced me to Best Friends Animal Society, the nation's largest sanctuary for homeless, abused, and abandoned animals. It is a refuge where hearts and bodies are mended by humans caring for animals, and by animals bonding with each other. No animals are killed because they are inconvenient, or troubled, or ill. Those who aren't suited to living with people are loved anyway, and those who want forever homes sometimes find them because of the work Best Friends does.

So, when I found out that Best Friends is funded by charitable donations, I came up with the idea of holding a raffle to benefit the sanctuary. The winner's pet will become a character in my creator's new novel and will become famous, just like me! And the animals at Best Friends will continue to know love...just like me.

Please enter the raffle. Don't wait. Time is different for us.

I am a very philosophical dog. I suppose that comes from hanging around with my person, Val, who is on a spiritual journey. However, Val and I have very different approaches to the same destination. Every day Val does what he calls God-bathing, which is how he describes contemplation. I, on the other hand, sun-bathe...it requires much less effort. I don't understand why humans have to complicate everything.

Twice a day Val goes to his chapel, chants his sacred word, and disappears into some inner space that provides him comfort. I, quite comfortably and at random times, lay in the sun. "Well, Tali, that's very nice, but what do you do on cloudy days?" you might ask. What a silly question! The sun is always there, whether you can see it or not.

Val developed his belief system by studying the great mystics of all ages and distilling their wisdom. I developed mine by smelling things. What my nose has taught me is that everything and everyone is totally unique. No two people smell the same, nor do any two animals, or plants, or even rocks. So, did all that uniqueness come from something or nothing? The answer is obvious to me.

Then, of course, there is the philosophical debate about being different versus conforming; this is a big issue in our home where one of us is gay and the other straddles that fence. Since each and every part of creation is unique, why shouldn't we respect the uniqueness of others?

Death is another big issue in our home. I was the first to lose a loved one. I gave birth to one little girl puppy we named Amulet. I was blessed to have her for almost a day. I knew from the moment I held her that something was wrong, but it was only a mother's knowing and no one else understood the problem. So I packed a lifetime of loving into that day; and love is the bridge between life and death, and love never dies.

Then Val lost his husband, Peter, in a car accident. Val's grief was no greater than mine, but he has had a harder time finding peace. He longs for the past, where I am content with the love I still have for Amulet. You see, I love her as much now as I did then. And when I sun-bathe I sense her presence in the hidden light.

Now this is not to say I didn't grieve my loss. I didn't eat for a week, and I whimpered in the sun, and howled at the moon. I still long to lick her. But that experience of grief has given me the gift of compassion and now my capacity to love is greater than it once was. And love is the thing that matters most.

Did I mention that I still smell the uniqueness of Amulet and Peter? I never forget a smell...

CONFIDENCE IS SEXY

Now, I know that some people think I'm a bit stuck-up. But, the truth is, I'm simply very confident. My mother once said to me, "Tali, there's a reason they call us bitches." And she was right. In my world, you just can't let them see your paws sweat, or you're flat on your back with your belly exposed, having to grin submissively, and that's just not my style.

Now that's not to say that I don't have a soft side. My person, Val, taught me that compassion is the most important thing in this world, and I do try and live that truth. For instance--even though it is every other dog's inclination to lick my ears adoringly--when I come snout to snout with a dog who is suffering, I don't hesitate to lick their ears instead. Like when Val takes me to the humane society to visit animals who are scared and lonely, or when he took me to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary down in Utah, well, I did a lot of ear-licking.

So, I suppose now that's cleared up, you won't think less of me when I say, "I'm sure it was your pleasure to visit me again."

The new novel about me has just been released!!!

It is a seriocomic tale about the real estate industry.  I am the office mascot.

My person is Valentino DeMitiri, a flamboyant man who chose as his real estate motto, "The Queen of Real Estate".  Every morning we perform the rousing ritual celebratory dance of success together.  It's a sight you simply have to see!  We both shimmy our sexy butts and have a great time.

The most exciting thing about the book is the charity raffle to benefit Best Friends Animal Society, the nation's largest sanctuary for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals.  The winner of the raffle will have their pet featured as a character in this novel's sequel.  I'm not sure I want to share the limelight, but it is for a good cause.

A FAMOUS DOG'S BLOG!

Before the summer is over, I will be a very famous dog.  Thus it only seems fitting that I begin writing my own blog.  After all, simply everyone is going to want to know everything there is to know about me.  I am one red hot dog!

My person is Valentino DeMitri, the most amazing human I have ever known...and I do get around. Val and I both love to dance: we're well known for shaking our butts as we perform our daily ritual rousing celebratory tribal dance of success.  I don't have a tail so I can shimmy my bottom without anything getting in the way.  Val's sexy butt can shimmy almost as well as mine.  We make a cute couple.

Both Val and I come from show-business families and handle the limelight well.  Val's mother, Margo DeMitiri, is an actress, and the head of the local university's theater department.  She once had an infamous fling with a famous Hollywood actor.  And that was how Val was created.   We call Margo our "Drama Queen."  I am "Queen For the Day," and Val is "Queen of the World."  There is a lot of drama in our family as we all vie for sovereignty of the DeMitri realm.

My own mother was a beauty queen who won so many beauty shows that her people had to build a special room to display all of her ribbons and awards.  So, as you can see, show business is in my bloodline as well.

There is so much I want to tell you about my life with Val, and my job, and my hobbies, and my charity work, and my thoughts about God, and my parents, and my sisters, and my many friends and fans, but I must pawz now for my beauty sleep.

In the meantime, you can learn more about the book that has been written about me: RED HOT PROPERTY.  Visit the website at www.RedHotNovel.com.  And, while you're there please read about the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary charity raffle, and about how your pet could become famous, too.  Just like me...

It was an honor for you to meet me...
